We believe innovation is the mother of sustainability. For too long, our industry has relied on too many inefficient, unsustainable approaches to manufacturing, delivering, and installing its products. In recent years, many improvements have been made, but we're showing our industry how much more is possible. We earned the Greenstep Pinnacle Award—Environmental Leader of the Year, the highest honor in Floor Covering Weekly's GreenStep program. And we're committed to leading the way for a more environmentally-responsible carpet industry. It begins with building green innovations into every step of the product lifecycle.
When carpet looks great—and maintains its natural good looks longer—then less carpet is being removed, transported, and replaced. That's a huge bonus for the environment. So one of the most important things we do to promote sustainability is make beautiful carpet and make it last longer. Our high performance fibers and quality constructions extend the natural life of every carpet we produce. Breakthrough technologies in stain and soil resistance—some engineered into the fiber itself—keep Mohawk floor coverings looking newer, enhance their durability, and make them easier and less costly to maintain.
Mohawk is a leader in sustainability because we lead in innovation. SmartStrand, the first carpet ever made with renewable resources, is an example of what happens when you're committed to pioneering new ways to protect the planet. For years, Mohawk innovations have been turning post-consumer waste—such as PET soda bottles, rubber tires, glass and other materials—into high performance flooring products. As we continue to surprise our industry with new innovations, we're focusing much of our effort on creating environmentally friendly products with pre- and post-consumer materials and making more use of renewable resources.
If you could see what goes into our products, you would discover a world of new innovations...from the world's first renewably sourced fiber...to design and manufacturing breakthroughs that enable us to use more recycled and recyclable materials in our products. In fact, we're even using less materials overall to make our products. It's just another way that we're making our planet a more beautiful place.
