How long have you been working in the industry?
5 years
What territory do you currently cover?
Colorado and Utah
What is your earliest memory that motivated you to pursue a career in design?
I grew up in a creative family with painters, woodworkers, and crafters that always encouraged me to explore art, and I remember feeling from a young age that I wanted my creative side to be more than just a hobby when I grew up. It took some time to figure out what that meant, but finally while studying in college I was introduced to textiles and fell in love with their history and tactility and am thrilled to have been able to make this my career.
What's been your design process when you developed this infuse collection for Durkan?
I began pouring through my own images for inspiration and I found photos I had taken from various hiking trips to the desert in Utah and Arizona as well as a trip to the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix that I found particularly inspiring and started to create textures, motifs, and patterns based on those experiences. We’ve seen a large trend in bringing the natural world into interior spaces so that we can feel those experiences in nature even when we are not physically there, and I wanted to create this collection with that feeling in mind.
When you are short on inspiration, how to you regenerize; where do you go for inspiration?
I love meandering around the botanical garden for inspiration, they have an incredible collection of plants that vary from tropical to desert to native wildflowers and there is always something new to explore no matter how many times I visit. My camera roll is mostly trips to various gardens so I can look back on different flowers and forms whenever I need some inspiration.
