Experience Crafted Convergence, an intriguing soft surface portfolio inspired by Durkan’s collaboration with the Museum of Indian Arts & Culture and the Museum of International Folk Art in Santa Fe, N.M. Crafted Convergence patterns draw inspiration from broad and varied sources—from Native American pottery and baskets to everyday Japanese and African garments. Translating the inspiration into Durkan’s broadloom and carpet tile, the design team chose to ennoble the original materials rather than replicate them. The collection celebrates the skillful use of negative and positive space so elegantly rendered in the handmade originals from cultures continents apart.
Crafted Convergence explores the idea of “everyday art” and the presence of “art everywhere.” The following materials and articles from the archives of New Mexico’s Museum of Indian Arts & Culture and the Museum of International Folk Art provided some of the inspiration for the collection.
