Infuse 023: Deepa Pillutla

How long have you been working in the Industry?

My designing journey started about 22+ years ago with woven textiles.

What territory do you currently cover?

Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego and Hawaii.

What inspires you professionally?

As a designer I am guilty of seeing design or pattern in almost everything. What inspires me could be art, architecture, nature, culture and everything that surrounds us.

What is your favorite aspect of your job?

Being able to find innovative solutions for custom projects while working with different departments and clients and explore possibilities with freedom of curating a collection like this.

What are your most favorite things on your desk?

Pom holders. Love to see them organized unlike before when my desk was a hot mess with poms everywhere.

When you are short on inspiration how do you reenergize; where do you go for inspiration?

Definitely outdoors. Nature is my goto to re-energize myself. Be it walk on a beach, freeway trail next to my place, a nice hike or go kayaking in serene waters.

What made you decide to showcase the trend/designs that you selected?

With most of our jobs being bound to a desk, I am inspired by various shapes and silhouettes of foliage and their textures I see from window while working. This collection is inspired by various forms and silhouettes of foliage. Considering shadow, negative space and transparency, the following designs bring elements of the outdoors in. By layering literal, figurative, and stylized representations of different species, this pattern collection explores how plants interact with each other in an interior setting.
