Healthy Interiors

Flooring for Healthier Spaces

We believe that your flooring should look good, feel right and withstand use over time. It should not make you worry about whether your new investment is harmful to your health. At Mohawk, all of our products and adhesives are Green Label Plus certified, and more than 500 of our product offerings include recycled content. We're nice to the earth, so we have the capacity to make products that are nice to you. Being green doesn't limit your options either. We have two sustainable fiber types to choose from in our carpet category: Duracolor and Colorstrand.

Living Building Challenge

Along with other leading-edge programs, ILFI operates the Living Building Challenge, a green building certification program defining the most advanced measure of sustainability for architecture and interior design and acting to diminish the gap between current limits and ideal solutions. Mohawk Group's key sponsorship demonstrates our commitment to the Living Building Challenge. The brand promotes the Living Building Challenge to the architecture and design community, where interest is gaining momentum, and work with ILFI to establish and energize collaboratives—groups interested in pursuing Challenge projects.

The Living Building Challenge 3.0: A Visionary Path to a Restorative Future

This course introduces the philosophy, performance standards and certification process of the Living Building Challenge 3.0, a truly transformative approach to design and construction, which is a global program of the International Living Future Institute. The LBC standard is explained by discussing the requirements for renovation, landscape or infrastructure and buildings. Seven performance areas are addressed: place, water, energy, health and happiness, materials, equity and beauty. Project parameters for performance are highlighted in 20 imperatives that project teams must address, in addition to providing examples of numerous case studies and certified living buildings.

Material Transparency and Healthy Interior Environments

This CEU explains the concept of materials transparency, why it’s important and the various methods that can be used to quantify a product’s ingredients. This CEU also discusses how various standards and organizations are including material transparency in their requirements, such as the Living Building Challenge, LEED v4, the WELL Building Standard and others. Specific documentation about product ingredients and sourcing is also covered, i.e., the Red List, Environmental Product Declarations, Declare labels and Health Product Declarations, along with a case study that explains the documentation process for materials transparency.
